I've currently got the DJM 2/4 drop on the truck. It's more like a 4/6 if you ask me, but.....
I'm on the lowest level with the shackles in the back, and i'm consistantly smacking the frame. Pancake style bumpstops are already in.
I know i've blown atleast one shock already, and have replacements ready to go in.
But, i'd like to notch the frame while i'm in there. Just to give me a bit more room, Michigan roads SUCK and i'm always spilling my morning coffee
So...
Who's got the frame notched, and where did you get the notch from?
I've got no problems w/ welding, TIG or MIG. And i've got my plasma cutter ready to make some holes.
TIA

I'm running a djm c notch I would much prefer a weld in one though if you have the acces to the tools then thats the way I'd go. Having a plasma cutter will make this a breeze I did mine with a sawzall and it took me hours. Welding is the way to go.

DJM is bolt in normally then? Nothing wierd about it that would keep me from just welding it in is there?
Also, did you have to trim any of the bed or support sturcture? Just wondering if i need to bribe some friends with beverages to help me lift the bed off to make it easy

You can do it on the truck, but the bed removal would make it easy. My friend did it on his with a cutting torch, then he bolted the kit on, then welded it around the edges, and then made a section to weld onto the back, making a box. Now I have heard that this setup will actually be stronger than the stock frame.

i hit my frame with the button style bumpstops too. im just gonna go the full 6" in the back and be done. ive seen those notches on ebay pretty cheap. personally im just gonna bolt in my notch.. use it the way it was designed.

My notch came with my kit and is bolt-in. I did it with a sawzall and a cut-off wheel and it wasn't any problem, the sawzall cuts through the frame like butta if you have the right blade on it. I had to take off my bed to put it on both because its easier than trying to do all that in the wheel well, and because I needed to trim the supports on the bed in a couple places. From what I've read, welding on our frames isnt supposed to be good for them, but with my latest shock debacle, i'm going to be having to do just that up front.
Nice setup btw.
Nice setup btw.
