I've never been into systems before, because I can't stand those idiots that always pull up next to me with their music on full blast. Although my friend showed me his system in his truck and now I want to do something small. I'm looking into getting some tweeters. I love Bose tweeters so I might get a set of those. What do you guys think and where should I mount them in a 1999 regular cab Sierra.

The stock location is not the best but if you can swivel the tweets to where it points directly at the opposide driver or passenger, it's a great improvement. I have mine on the A pillars and its not the best location but it an omprove over having down there on the dorrs. I do plan on having custom fiberglass work done to my Apillars so I can place my tweet directly towords the listeners....

What trim level do you have? If you have the 2 piece system allready in the doors, then put them there. If not and you don't mind drilling into the a pillar covers, put them there aiming to the center of the truck.

GMC, as long as you want to stay at a low level/money wise then do a set of component speakers in the doors if you have two speakers in the front doors like Fast said. If you want to compete eventually for sound quality then put a set of tweeters in the a pillars like tib did. I compete in sound quality with my truck and I still need to do the a pillars with an extra set of tweeters. I have MB Quarts premium's components in the front doors, 4x6 boston plates in the rear doors(EC) and a JL8W7, all powered by a JL500.5 amp. The system sounds great and screams. The 8 is the best 8 there is in my ears as long as its the W7 series. But all goes here again, alot of money put into this system. So if you want to stay small, start with the components in the doors. If you want to beat the guys that roll up blasting then go my route, but with a bigger sub. The 8 is good for me, very suprising for an 8 too. I normally can hit 130's db wise on my 1 8" sub, which is pretty good for an 8. Any more?'s, just ask.

Tib, you may be able to put the tweeters down toward the bottom of the pillar and let it fire towards the window. The sound will bounce off towards the opposite people without fiberglassing the a pillars. That will be my next thing as stated above. Is there enough room down there? Haven't looked, just thought about it and talked it over with my installer.

I reflected my A-pillar tweets towards the windshield. Each tweeter aims at about the opposite corner at the front of the hood if that makes sense. I would have WAY too much high if I didn't do that.

Also, be careful if you have them flush mounted like tibby does and they drill a hole through the A-pillar, I have seen more than one cracked windshield from that. If you see in his pic though where the seam is in the a-pillar cover about 3" from the base, that is where mine are mounted in little pods.

Mudz, we posted at the same time or I would have answered your question, there is room down there, i'll snap a pic tomorrow and show you where mine are, but like I said, I would advise against a flush mount.

Pewter...in the defroster vents, or in the front of the headliner?

It weakened the a pillar in that spot enough that the windshield got a small crack that grew. May have been just a couple fluke instances that I happened to encounter, but those encounters are enough to keep me from doing it or recommending it. YMMV

Nah tib, nice loc though. You see where the a pillars bend towars the windshield at the bottom, nice flat spot. Thats where.

Low, as far as your question to pewter, he'll never tell. Hint, look for something round in the headliner area?!?!?!?

Tib, can you explain how to post pics that big? I tried to post a pic of the New Yukon AT4 in my post and can't, says its too big. The file size must be 100kb or lower, and its 4xxkb size. Help. Thanks

Hey Mudz, I'm with ya' on those JL W7's! I have 2 8"s in a sealed box below my rear seats and it bump pretty good. I'm running JL components in the front doors offf my Alpine HU and 4" plates in the rear doors pushed off a Lightining Amp, with the subvs. That's my weak link. I'm looking at getting a JL amp like yours sometime soon to drive my subs a little better. They hit hard and sound pretty good now, but I know there's more sound quality to be had with a cleaner amp. What kind of box do you have your sub in? dimensions/cubic ft? Got any pics? That's an awesome Db with your setup, very nice!

Those pics are hosted on webspace. The file attachment that is 100x100 is downloaded to our space from your pc. We have to limit the size for that reason.

Well I just need to know how to download the pic. I tried last night but it says my file is too large(I get that alot :) ) Anyway, just need a little help.

Tucker, the box is custom and its badass. If I could figure out how to post a pic, I will post a pic later. The W7's require a custom enclosure with a custom wide port if you go ported. Yeah I love the sound. Another thing, if you get the 500.5, you can get a remote bass controller, set the reciever to your normal setting and use the knob for more/less bass as needed. Really nice additive. God I need to learn to post pics. Soon......

I am almost certain your ISP provides you with some webspace. Just up load your pics there and them link them.

I mounted a set the set of tweeders out of my rockford fosgate compontent set on the apillar. I was going to recess them into the plastic but there is not enough room to make it look right and I didn't have the balls to cut a hole in the metal. However it does sound a lot better than having them down in the door.

Yeah, thats their new screen, the IVA-D900. I still want to get at least one more screen for the passenger visor though to add stuff to it and the navigation unit. You can post a link to any size picture you want, you can just only host pictures here that are of a certain size. I should have scaled it down further before I uploaded it, it was bigger, thats only 80%.

If you want pics of what the screen does or anything I'll take some pics, my cam resolution wont do the picture quality of the screen justice though.

My setup is as follows in the Z71:

Alpine 7998 HU
JL XR 653 CSi 3 way comps
Q-Forms Kickpanels
Infinity Kappa 462.5cfp
JL 12W3v2 in JL Stealthbox
JL 500/1 Mono Sub Amp
JL 300/4 4 channel Amp

Esoteric Audio 1 Farad cap
4awg Esoteric power/ground

I install all my own stuff that saves a ton of $$$. I will upload my pics to Imagestation and post them in this thread.

BTW incase anyone is wondering, my other trucks' got a Pioneer Premier DEH-P720, Polk DX coax's, and a JL 300/2. :)

Sup Eric... how were you able to seperate the back seat from the top part?"

File....
There are 4 bolts that hold the back seat to the floor. Then there is one or two more that hold some thick wire to the floor in the back.

You must lift up then out to get the seat out. It's a PITA by yourself to get out...ever moreso to reinstall. I busted a few knuckles and bled profusely after doing this.

Still I'd rather have some cuts+bruises by doing the install myself as that is more mod money for me. :)

ladies and gentleman, we have a bingo! never got them in though, the holes were larger than the tweeter width. Hate to make some custom lil brackets and me and a friend got lazy, so we'll just have to get back to it again someday.
