Default Just found this site

Wow, all this great info. in 1 location. Been reading for a few days and have a ? that I couldn't answer while searching.

Here it goes, I want an exhaust that is very throaty and performs well. At the moment I've got an oversized Y pipe from the cats (custom made), 3" to 1 Flowmaster 40 and turndowns at the REAR quarter panels (kinda ghost style).

I want to run TRUE duals on my 5.3! My original plan was a 2.5 X pipe, 2.25 pipe from the X to 2 Spintech Prostreets and then 2.5 from the muffs. out the back with 2 4"x18" tips.

After talking with a local guy that does most race applications, he told me that I would be wasting my money and wouldn't get any better performance with the X pipe/TRUE dual set-up. Said that I would get a lot more sound and thats it.

So to make a short story long, should I keep the Cat-back system and add tips for better sound? Will the True duals give a lil more performance? Is the X pipe worth the money? Are my pipe diameters correct? Or should I run 2.5 for the whole system? How much backpressure/low end will I lose when running the TRUE duals? Should I run 1 muff or 2? And what Spintechs should I get? (prostreet or the Sportsman XL)

Thank, again, for the time and help...noobs are always fun.

my setup is very throaty at idle, and sounds bad *** at wot, it is as follows, HAMM headers(you could go with ASMs), 3" mandral bent pipe into a dr. gas X into dynomax bullet mufflers dumped, i wish i had went with the spintech mufflers too though cuz they sound really good.

Welcome aboard!

It's a similiar setup for me too. Hamm headers to stock cats then to Magnaflow x-pipe then dual Edelbrock RPM series mufflers and finally exiting out the center of my roll pan. Looks sortof Viperish. Nice throaty sound and pretty quiet at idle but roars nicely when you get on it. I get a little "brappp!" in between shifts and when it downshifts while slowing down it does this "poppity-pop, pop, pop" thing but all in the cool true-dual V8 sortof way.

Well, minus the headers do you think I can get the throaty sound WITH performance? Don't get me wrong, I know the headers will net me the biggest gains, but I don't plan on putting them on as my truck is 6" higher, on 35's with 4.56 gears and I just want to give it a really throaty sound with a lil better performance. It just sound whimpy right now.

BTW I debated going with this set-up http://www.dynatechheaders.com/chevysupermaxx.html and some form of an exhaust system, then weighed the money.

First up .. the X-pipe WILL give you better performance. It will also dampen the sound some. Sounds like your guy had it backwards.

I would stick with 2.5 pipe whole way through. I would check out MagnaFlows too. I would leave it dumped though, that just sounds wicked IMO.

Alright, I'm doing 2.5 pipe 3" core X pipe, 2.5" pipe throughout the system with 2 spintechs and 4" tips out back.

1)Where can I find spintechs for a good price?
2)Should I use the Sportsman XL or the ProStreet?

thanks for the help

Welcome! Where are you located? You might want to check your local laws before you make any changed to your exhaust just to make sure it is legal I know, I know, screw the law.
