Default CHANGING REAR ROTORS HELP!

its been a bad night.i cant remember my old password so now im teching in.
anyhow im doing my fathers brakes on his 2001 2500 hd sierra 4wd. the rear rotors are badly grooved. i read somewhere that there is only 1 mil tolerence for turning them so it looks like im ordering some new ones.
is there any trick to removing the rear rotors? do they just slide off like drums? also are the rear calipers the threaded style or just a straight piston?

any advice is greatly appreciated. my older log in name is last of the z28's so if i find my password ill be responding under that name.
thanks in advance!

Those rotors can be a real pain in the *** to get off. Heres what I do: Go take the truck around the block and while you're driving apply the park brake at least 5 or 6 times while moving. Just push it down until it starts to slow the truck down, don't lock up the rear brakes! What that does is burns the rust off the inside of the rotors, making it easier to get off. Next, take the caliper and pad bracket off. Take off the clips that hold the rotor to the axle (if they're still on.) Then get a big hammer and smack in between each lug nut stud quite a few times, then on the drum part of the rotor. After that get 2 big screw drivers and put one in the left side of the rotor in the vents, and the other in the right side. Then wiggle both screwdrivers back and forth til it slides off. Thats it! Now this is how we do it in Ohio with all the rust, if you live in the south, they will probably just slide right off! Also, the piston just pushes in with a c clamp. Hope this helps!

ah thanks alot. so its just like a drum then. al least with the drums you can strategically whack it from behind. ill take the propane torch to it in the mourning and whack away. i havent takin the front tires off yet but im assuming its a regulular slide on 4wd rotor. this board rocks! i myself own a 02 z28 and fiqured what the hell ill ask the truck guys and bam! the answers come in. i tryed searching "how to's" on gmc's and nothing was coming up. thanks again!
